How to create individualized training paths using LMS

Written by SeekLMS Correspondent on 14 March 2022

1. ASSESSMENT OF LEARNERS' SKILLS

Proposed upstream of a training course, the evaluation courses allow the training departments to establish a complete inventory of the skills of a learner. This process makes it possible to recommend to learners the most suitable learning paths according to the objective targeted, the level to be reached at the end of the training, the necessary deadline, or even the conditions of achievement (face-to-face, blended, micro-learning, mobile learning, etc.).

In a very simple way, the courses manage to synthesize a whole set of information on an individual, then allowing the creation of an individualized training course respecting all the criteria set by the person in charge of skills development.

2. PERFORMING A POSITIONING TEST

Before being able to create individualized training courses, the training departments must collect a lot of information on the skills already mastered by the individuals registered in the training system. To do this, it is possible to launch a global positioning test campaign. These tests built upstream by the skills development department make it quite easy to map an individual's strategic skills directly related to their business challenges.

The results are presented in the form of reports (collective or individual) and allow a training manager or manager to see in the form of radar (skills mapping) the level of each individual for such and such a skill. These positioning tests can be carried out before or after training. All the results make it possible to highlight the skills of the employees and to greatly refine the training choices to be offered to individuals.

3. CONSTRUCTION OF ADAPTIVE COURSES

This very individualized approach in the construction of training courses makes it possible to take into account the pace of learning, the aptitudes, the achievements, and the needs of each individual. The learner can freely take different paths to go from point A to point B. So even if a skill development trajectory is proposed in a common frame of reference for the company, there is a dynamic of personalized construction.

In this way, the end of long, linear, boring, and daunting training. This is to allow everyone to move forward at their own pace, to avoid frustration and demotivation while developing the desire to learn.

4. MANAGEMENT & TARGETING OF LEARNERS

To go further in the personalization of training paths, it is possible to establish prerequisites to be able to follow a training, an assessment, or a course. These prerequisites can be implemented on training paths or on self-service training.

If the learner does not meet the conditions defined by the training manager, he will not be able to continue his learning path or apply for registration to access specific training. For more flexibility, the conditions and the number of prerequisites can be configured. The learner must fulfill at least one prerequisite or all of the prerequisites depending on the option chosen.

In addition, for self-service training courses, it is possible to build a personalized catalog by applying specific targeting (by profession / by service / by geolocation). Thus an individual in the production sector will not have the same training catalog as a person attached to the sales/marketing department.
